News Cornish web site for well enthusiasts

Dave Roberts from Cornwall contacted us with details of his web site listing holy wells in the county.

    He writes:

The interest of holy wells started when I visited St Neots holy well last May. I found the place appealing, following the sign to the holy well, past a river, then finding the well in a field. This is part of the reason why I still find the search for holy wells interesting, as the search for them is a journey or experience in itself. However they are also an important part of the local history, as they have been visited for many hundreds, possibly thousands of years, as a place of respect, healing and divination.

I then researched on the internet and found that Cornwall has a plethora of holy wells and sacred springs, which I did not know about. I found this surprising that many of these sites are virtually unknown to people, so I decided to visit these places and photograph them and also read further on the subject. Months later I realized I could create a website with all the information and photographs I had acquired, so I did!

On my website I have a history section, which explores the history and origin of these ancient sites. The list page lists all the holy wells (that still exist) that I could find in Cornwall with the ones I have visited highlighted in white. I have a map on my website, in which you can click on a holy well icon and you will be taken to the relevant page, which gives you information on that particular well and you can click on the thumbnails on these pages and a larger image will open. Finally if you are interested in further reading on the subject then go to the links page.

I hope to continue visiting and photographing these sites and maybe one day I will have visited them all!
